In management theory, there is an important principle known as 80-20 rule or the Pareto principle. The idea was formulated by the Italian economist and sociologist Vilfredo Federico Pareto. The principle states that, for many events, roughly 80 % of the effects come from 20 % of the causes. Apparently Pareto developed what would later be known as his principle by observing that 20% of the pea pods in his garden contained 80% of the peas!
